21.08.07    070 Phone Numbers to Have Cost Per Minute Disclaimer Comment  More>>

It’s official as of September 2007 all 070 phone numbers including those on K rate and PN2 Rate will have per minute disclaimers played by the network the caller uses to ring the service. This move is believed to elimainate scams where fraudsters use the numbers to trick the public into callers to phone the number and be billed anything up to 50p per minute.

It is also expected to eliminate 070 number owners who lie about the price of calling the number. Phonenumbers4u once heard a lady who was telling callers that calls to her number cost 2p - 5p per minute to ring where it actually cost 50p per minute!

With this move as the cost is disclaimed at the networks end e.g. if you call from a 02 mobile phone then they’ll notify of the cost to call likewise if you call from a Virgin Media or BT phone then they will let you know what the cost is rather than the owner of the premium number.

It’s my hope that this is a move closer to having calls disclaimed at the networks end for ALL premium rate calls as some rougue users often lie about the cost to call the 090 number.

21.08.07    Are £1.50 Premium Telephone Numbers Dead? Comment  More>>

Over the last year or so there’s been growing evidence that the UK is rejecting some services run on £1.50 per minute premium telephone numbers. Many who promote the numbers or host there own service are seeing dramatic improvements in migrating over to £1.00 and 60p premium numbers.

As expected there has proven to be a greater response in using lower tariff 50p, 60p, 75p and £1.00 tariffs as they attract callers to the service then extend the conversation to make up for the reduced revenue received from the premium phone line is what most premium rate promoters are adopting in replacement for having shorter calls from fewer callers that generate more revenue per minute however require a greater thro put of users.

Surely a trend that is likely to continue? What do you think?
