With Orange and 02 finally switching on the £10 premium rate shortcode merchants in the UK can now charge up to £10 per SMS for products and services.

Typically the highest chargeable (premium rate) text you could bill was £5.00 but as of a few weeks ago the most expensive code is now a tenner, the intention of this code is to encourage sellers to sell items such as CDs, books, subscriptions to websites etc to customers via the customers mobile phone credit.

Although the out payments are not as high as taking payment via credit/debit card or using other methods such as Paypal it’s hoped that the main benefit of using the £10 code as payment is shear customer conveinence.
