11.12.06    Premium Rate Scam Alert! Comment  More>>

Be on guard! There is a Premium Rate Scam which I was fortunate enough to avoid.  A few weeks ago I received a call from an automated machine which when answered said “hello can you hear me? I cant hear you very well can you call me ba…” then the line went dead. The whole message from start to finish was distorted and I could bearly make out the words.

Now heres the SCAM, if you call 1471 to retreive the CLI number you’re told its from a phone number starting with 070, although I believe that 99% of 070 Numbers are genuinely routed to landline or mobiles, I know that this one is routed to a Premium Rate Number! Therefore if you ring back this 070 number you WILL be charged at £1.50 per minute rather than 25p - 30p per minute for the call.

I didnt personaly call the number, but I presume that when you do it plays a message which gives the impression that you’re on hold and are being connected to someone, but this is likely to last for at least 3-4 minutes meaning £4.50 - £6.00 off your BT phone bill!

If anyone has been caught out by this SCAM please contact us, as we’ll gladly assist you by alerting Premium Rate Regulator ICSTIS and assist you in claiming a 100% refund.
