| 27.11.06 Should We “Say No To 0870″ Phone Numbers? |
As of recent years there has been some controversy on 0870 Numbers where as some believe that ending the revenue share generated from the phone calls will benefit the consumer many believe that it will have the opposite affect.
As if revenue share on 0870 Numbers were to STOP overnight then businesses and Telecoms Providers would not only lose a good proportion of their income but Telecoms Suppliers would be forced to re-introduce or increase monthly rentals on Business IVR Systems and 0870 phone line rentals as the 0870 rebate helped subsidise the monthly rental to as much as THOUSANDS of pounds per month.
Making these services no longer cost effective for the large majority of businesses and therefore with NO 0870 income or IVR Call Management System it is likely that the quality, effeciency and customer care of some businesses would be affected, as the loss of income is likely to result in the loss of jobs.
It has also been predicted that many organisations would LOSE their 0870 Phone Numbers overnight as many have been purchased via resellers, so as resellers were to no longer receive a commision from the calls generated on their clients 0870’s it is expected that some may “disapear” and therefore their clients number may be shut down or reclaimed by the Telecoms Provider, loosing a businesses phone and fax number could not only lose a good proportion of their business but it would make THOUSANDS of pounds of previous advertising useless!
Some believe that some “Say No To 0870″ phone number supporters are unaware of the facts that (1) Calls to 0870 Numbers cost just 1.5p per minute on weekends (2) Calls to 0870’s in the evening cost around 3.95p per minute (3) Calls to 0870 numbers are charged at National Rate regardless of where you call, depending on the price plan calls to an 0870 Number can be cheaper than calling a 01 or 02 Non Geographic Number!
Whats your opinion on 0870 Phone Numbers?Â

Calling these numbers from abroad will either not connect OR are VERY expensive, as certainly France Telecom and Telofonica appear to charge as calls to mobiles

Typical!!! you have misquoted the facts to justify your rediculous system. No wonder this system angers people. You quote Price of “FROM” and “sometimes” but you don’t say the prices “during working hours” when the majority of firms using 0870 are available to be contaced and the rediculour idea of the said firm making money from callers while they are making money from them at the same time — A double charge to the caller to make more profit for the firm provide a service. Any Comments please?

I have just received a phone call from 08448844656, an automated voice started a spiel about it being an “official Government Information” call. In short, a con. Unfortunately for me, they caught me at a rather fraught moment and I hit redial; 10 minutes of ‘music’ interspersed with the ubiquitous - your call is important… - and I gave up. Just a thought; don’t get caught by them as well.

Worst offenders are SKY, their ‘helpline’ is 0870 and we just had a bill in for £80, oh and we had signed up to their free evening calls, what a joke!
